Request for Qualifications: West Harbor Waterfront Public Art

The West Harbor, Port of Los Angeles Waterfront Development in San Pedro, California, is currently seeking proposals for public art installations in 2024 and 2025.

Applications for Phase I: Request for Qualifications, are due by 11:59pm on July 8, 2024

Angels Gate Cultural Center (the designated Public Art Advisor for the West Harbor Waterfront Development), is seeking multiple proposals for public art of various mediums, including but not limited to, murals, large scale sculpture, sound art, digital art projections/video displays, and multi-sensory experiences. Selected projects will demonstrate unique artistic perspectives and approaches that are interested in investigating the Port of Los Angeles and topics relevant to our local diverse communities that call San Pedro home.

All artists are welcome to apply to Phase I: Request for Qualifications (RFQ). Only invited applicants will be allowed to submit a full project proposal in Phase II: Request for Proposals (RFP).

ARTS EDUCATION INTERN

ARTS EDUCATION INTERN

Brief Position Description: 

Candidates for Angels Gate Cultural Center’s Arts Education Intern position should be interested in learning about K-12 Arts Education Programming at a nonprofit arts organization. Working closely with AGCC’s education team, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about and assist during innovative and progressive arts educational programs for both youth and adults. The Arts Education Intern will help to deliver and promote all education programs at AGCC, including public programs taught at the Center, as well as the Artists-in-Classrooms in-school program, and other local arts workshops. The Intern will participate in administrative activities and have the opportunity to gain knowledge about an arts nonprofit’s daily operations, gallery and studio artists programs, event promotion and marketing, grant writing, budgeting, and arts education advocacy. 

This is a 20-32 hours/week, paid, 12-week internship, July through October, flexible dependent on the intern’s availability. Open to enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County

Required or preferred qualifications: 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • An enthusiasm for the arts, for arts education, and a passion for bringing high-quality arts programming to underserved communities 
  • Major in art, arts education, museum studies and/or art history preferred  
  • Familiarity with Mac computers 
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Excel and Word preferred 
  • A familiarity with Adobe CS software preferred 
  • Knowledge of social media platforms preferred 

REQUIREMENTS:   

  • Professional demeanor  
  • Punctuality  
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills  
  • Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail  
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment  
  • Must be able to problem-solve independently and collaborate with others  
  • Reliable form of transportation is required, as the Angels Gate Cultural Center is not easily accessible via public transportation  

Please note: Since Angels Gate Cultural Center is a former military base and historic site, accessibility in some areas is a challenge.

MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT INTERN

MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Brief Position Description: 

Angels Gate Cultural Center’s Marketing & Development Intern will work to understand the purpose of, and how to support and enhance, the organization’s fundraising portfolio and marketing efforts. The intern will assist with marketing and outreach for the Center’s gallery and arts education programming, contribute to AGCC’s social media presence, assist with fundraising efforts and provide support for ongoing development activities including prospect research and grant writing support.  

The intern will participate in shared daily administrative activities and will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about arts organization’s operations, gallery education, program promotion, public relations, marketing and arts education advocacy.  

This is a 20-32 hours/week, paid, 12-week internship, July through October, flexible dependent on the intern’s availability. Open to enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County
