Galleries

Saturday, June 17th is the final day to view our current exhibitions, MINGLE MANGLE and Notions of Place. The closing reception will take place in the gallery from 2-4pm. At 2:30 pm there will be an Artist Talk with the artists of Notions of Place.

The Artist Talk will feature Notions of Place curator and artist Lauren Kasmer, as well as artists Hilary Baker, Joyce Dallal, and Flora Kao. The artists will discuss their work in relation to the exhibition’s themes of place and home, and there will be a chance for audience members to ask questions of their own.

Guest curated by Lauren Kasmer, Notions of Place examines the complexity of inhabited spaces, as they create metaphors of exchange between nature and human action. Notions of Place includes works by Hilary Baker, Joyce Dallal, Natalie M. Godinez, Kio Griffith, Flora Kao, Lauren Kasmer, LaRissa Rogers, Jenny Yurshansky, and HK Zamani.

Click here to RSVP on eventbrite (not required).

This exhibition is supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles and the Pasadena Art Alliance. Funding is also provided by the California Natural Resources Agency for the Museum Grant Program under the California Cultural and Historical Endowment.

Congratulations to AGCC Director of Arts Education Marissa Magdalena Sykes who was invited to participate in Self Help Graphics & Art‘s 50th Anniversary, Paper Fashion Gala and interviewed about her work by KCET.

Artists designed wearable paper art inspired by prints from Self Help Graphic’s vast archive of prints. Marissa took inspiration from Shizu Saldamando’s 2008 print “Class Notes: A.K.A. What I Learned in Art School.”
