Studio Artists

The last day to see Studio Artists Elyse Pignolet’s installation, at the COLA exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is September 16th, the only Saturday it will be open.

Elyse will also be in a group show Seriously? Art and Humor For Challenging Times at Orange Coast College Art Gallery.  The show opens September 30th and runs through November 30th.

Works by Angels Gate Cultural Center Studio Artists Ann Weber and Lynn Doran were selected to be auction at the Long Beach Museum of Art‘s 20th Biennial Art Auction Fundraiser!

Bidding started on September 1st and culminates with a Live Auction Event at the Museum on September 10th at 6pm -10pm.

An illustrator from China, Ruilin Shi is committed to storytelling and creating original characters. Her artwork includes a lot of line work and rich colors. Ruilin is currently working in comic and traditional printing and printmaking.

Sheez Lu is a cartoonist, illustrator, printmaker, and enthusiast of various genres of narratives.

Sheez Lu says she Is open to hearing stories and always will be.

Aletta Ren was a writer who started to draw in 2019, the senior year of her BFA study. She is currently pursuing an Illustration MFA in the College of Visual Performance Art. 

Aletta’s works are influenced by Russian, Chinese, and German literature, impressionism, and ink drawing. Her works mainly take “love, war, and parting” as the theme. She narrates and criticizes the eccentric ordinary and admires the wispy line between different emotions.
Long Beach Gives is a 24-hour online giving day that helps our organization raise funds and continue to engage our community through arts education, exhibitions, cultural events, and so much more. In 2021, we raised more than $37,000 during this exciting fundraiser!

Part Two! a shadow out of the noise

Part Two! a shadow out of the noise, a hyper-visceral experience is created by Beck+Col’s avant-garde use of opera, heavy metal, and fantastical wearable sculptures in their otherworldly performances.
Featuring works by Beck+Col in collaboration with Kayla Aguila and Tetiana Sklyarova.

This exhibition is supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles and the Pasadena Art Alliance. Funding is also provided by the California Natural Resources Agency for the Museum Grant Program under the California Cultural and Historical Endowment.

Solace / Sublime

Guest curated by Molly Enholm Velazco, this group exhibition explores the elemental forces of nature to find moments of hope and solace, perhaps even reaching the sublime.  

Solace / Sublime features the work of artists Samantha Fields, Megan Frances, Yvette Gellis, Virginia Katz, R. Nelson Parrish and Molly Enholm Velazco.

This exhibition is supported by the Pasadena Art Alliance and the Department Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles.

Community

Angels Gate Cultural Center is pleased to announce our September edition of Studio Soup featuring Los Angeles-based artists Ben Cuevas and Jynx Prado.  This live conversation with audience Q&A will discuss the artists’ shared interests in fiber and performance while exploring contemporary art as a method to counter established binaries.

Join Artist-Teacher, Jayn Ghormley, in this Fanciful Creature Collage Workshop where participants will use the elements of design to create imaginative and original art.

Workshop attendees will learn to use shape, line and color to construct, deconstruct, and reconstruct your magical friends! We can’t wait to meet you and your new creations on September 16th!

The 3rd Annual San Pedro Music Festival is back at the Warner Grand Theatre on September 10th! 

This year, the headliners are PONCHO SANCHEZ, one of the most influential percussionists in music today and TONY TERRY, R&B singing sensation out of Atlanta.

You can also look forward to Jazz in Pink, an all women jazz ensemble, John Stanley King and his band from Palm Desert, The Scorch Sisters with a tribute to Janis Joplin. The Foundation with a tribute to the O’Jays plus the amazing jazzy stylings of singer Windy Barnes and more.
