Los Angeles-based artist Ben Cuevas’ work is rooted in concepts of otherness, inspired by their queer, non-binary, HIV-positive, Latinx identity. As intersectionality informs their practice, their work is naturally interdisciplinary — involving textiles, photography, sculpture, installation, and more. A central part of their artwork is based in fiber, underscoring queer/feminist ideologies within the gendered history of women’s work.
Born and based in Los Angeles, Jynx Prado critiques and questions the natural and artificial elements within cultures, nature, and human existence, and their coexistence through an interdisciplinary practice with material ranging between found objects, fibers and the artist themself. Through humor, irony and symbolism, Prado creates sculptures, performances and visuals that intertwine queerness, their Latino/a/x/e community, and historical and mythological texts.
