About Quilt Block Workshops
Join us on Sunday, October 10th at Angels Gate Cultural Center for a 2-hour workshop making your own quilt block for We Are Home: A Community Quilt Project. Led by Charity Malin, Peggy Zask and Linda Jo Russell from SoLA (South LA Contemporary), participants will be provided with fabric, thread, and basic quilting supplies to make 12 x 12 inch quilt blocks with the theme of Home. Attendees are encouraged bring their own materials, memorabilia, tools, etc., to personalize their creation. Participants will be asked to donate their block to the community-based art project.
This is an all-ages, free community event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. COVID-19 safety protocols will be enforced, including mandatory mask-wearing and health screening upon check-in.
Space is limited to 14 participants per session. Reserve your ticket today!
We Are Home: A Community Quilt Project
Presented by SoLA – South LA Contemporary Gallery, and hosted by Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC)
SoLA is inviting all Los Angeles area residents to participate in a community-based art endeavor. Los Angeles community members are encouraged to donate quilt blocks that share reflections of “Home”. Home can be interpreted to mean anything – from your family, local community, personal home, neighborhood or your business, to the larger concept of the earth or the universe. Donated quilt blocks will be assembled into quilts that will exhibit at various spaces in Los Angeles, including Angels Gate Cultural Center in November.
Concluding the We Are Home quilt exhibition tour, individual quilt blocks will be auctioned and all proceeds will be donated to Homelessness Organizations.
We appreciate your creative investment in this project to help heal our community!
