Open Studios Day is a free, family event that provides the public a glimpse into the process, art, and lives of local artists who create at AGCC.
Saturday, April 15, 2023 – 12:00pm – 4pm We host one of the largest studio artist programs in the region with over 50 Studio Artists working in ceramics, photography, painting, printmaking, writing, sculpture, videography, and music. This self-guided tour of artist studios provides a unique opportunity to interact with the artists and purchase contemporary works of art. The event includes onsite performances, demonstrations, and workshops by our community classes and Family Art Workshop programs. Masks are optional but preferred while visitors are indoors.
Artist Demonstrations – Demonstrations by Community Class teachers and Studio Artists will be ongoing throughout the day. Direct from the Classroom: Spring Selections features art works created by K-6th grade students in our Artists-in-Classrooms program. In the 2022-2023 school year, AGCC provided arts education to 18 schools, 187 classrooms, and 4,114 students in the San Pedro and greater Los Angeles County region in visual, performing, and literary arts. Notions of Place examines what it means to inhabit a complexity of different spaces – be they physical realities or imagined environments. These spaces proffer metaphors of exchange between nature and human action, drawing on dreams, memories, and the spaces in between–disintegrating commonly held social views that have acted as fences around our homes. Notions of Place is curated by Lauren Kasmer and includes works by Hilary Baker, Natalie M. Godinez, Kio Griffith, Flora Kao, Lauren Kasmer, LaRissa Rogers, Jenny Yurshansky, and HK Zamani. Homesĭtē is an ongoing artwork by Joyce Dallal and Lauren Kasmer about the city of Los Angeles as one’s home.
