This is a secular group for all local people interested in starting or maintaining a meditation practice.
The Buddhist sutras regularly mention the importance of taking refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. This is a secular group for all local people interested in starting or maintaining a meditation practice. Whether you are familiar with the teachings of Buddhism or not, the power of meditation has been well studied and can be a benefit to all people. You don’t need to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; you can use it to be whatever you already are.
This group will operate on the principle of dana, but put simply, will be donation based/no one turned away for lack of funds/pay what you can.
Doors open at 9:55 and we will begin meditating together by 10:15. Please arrive and get settled in on time. We will plan to meditate silently for about 30-40 minutes as time allows. Blake will offer some basic instruction to the group as needed, and will occasionally include quotes, talks, and/or recordings from artists, poets, and other esteemed meditation teachers.
The room has hardwood/laminate flooring. If you have a practice of sitting on the floor, please bring your cushions/props. We will have regular chairs available as well. It is helpful to various props so consider bringing a small cushion to sit on and a small blanket or wrap as well.
The room has no heat/AC but being near the ocean there is a lovely breeze. It may be cold in Fall/Winter months. Please dress appropriately for your comfort and consider bringing layers if it is cold.
