AGCC in conjunction with CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles is pleased to present a one-night popup exhibition, Adam Rabinowitz: Death of a Star on view Saturday, March 12th from 6:30pm – 11pm at CRAFTED at the Port of LA. The monumental video work by Rabinowitz will be projected on the exterior of the Brouwerij West warehouse building and will be accessible for free public viewing at sundown. The projection is an auxiliary exhibit of PORTALS, which is currently on view at AGCC through March 26th.
Described by the artist Adam Rabinowitz as cosmic imagery, Death of a Star is a video work which shifts between abstracted shapes, colors and forms – glowing and powerful in its presentation via large scale projection. Sited in proximity to the Port of Los Angeles, the work is in direct conversation with the port as a massive facilitator of change. The location is particularly poignant as the Port ushered economic growth and redefined a new modern era for Los Angeles. Rabinowitz’ symbolic imagery of a cosmic death signals a transformative event – creating a gateway to new futures and beginnings.
Adam Rabinowitz was born in Hadera, Israel and lives and works in Los Angeles, California. He has shown internationally and his work is included in prominent collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, among others. He is known for distinctly smooth gradients of luminous color which evoke the rich sunsets of Los Angeles in his mirage-like abstracted landscapes.
A free public presentation of Adam Rabinowitz: Death of a Star, an auxiliary exhibition of PORTALS, by AGCC is presented in partnership with CRAFTED at the Port of LA, in an effort to support the vibrancy of artists and local businesses at the Port of Los Angeles. CRAFTED is a handmade shopping experience featuring the work of LA’s best artisans and craftspeople. The restored 1940’s-era warehouses located in the Port are home to hundreds of individual artisans and craft brewer, Brouwerij West. PORTALS at CRAFTED at the Port of LA is made possible with generous support from The Port of Los Angeles’ Community Investment Program, without which the exhibition would not be possible. PORTALS is also sponsored, in part, by the Pasadena Art Alliance.
