Join us in celebrating 40 years of art and arts education at Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC)! The Center has been dedicated to serving the Los Angeles Harbor Region with year-round exhibitions, arts education and cultural events and has a big year planned.
This year we will be celebrating our long running history of art, arts education advocacy and honor the artists who have helped bring that vision to life throughout the years. If you know someone who is a studio artists alumnus or has taught or worked here in the past please ask them to get in touch so we can include them in this 40th year celebration.

Portals
PORTALS reflects on the transformative nature of passageways – contemplating ideas of boundaries, entrance and egress, progress, and travel into the unknown. These gateways facilitate growth through the change they welcome into our worlds. Working in tapestry, drawing, neon sculpture, resin and site-specific installation among other mixed media, the artists explore transformation, with the Port of Los Angeles as a relevant foil. PORTALS invites an experiential look at the work of nine contemporary artists whose works speak to the nature of these life-altering gateways.
Curated by Stephanie Sherwood, PORTALS and includes works by Erin Harmon, Erika Lizée, Elana Mann, Yevgeniya Mikhailik, Alicia Piller, Adam Rabinowitz, Esther Ruiz, Howard Schwartzberg, and Svetlana Shigroff.

Information on visiting the gallery can be found on our website at Angelsgateart.org.
PORTALS is made possible with generous support from the Port of Los Angeles Community Investment Program and the Pasadena Art Alliance.

Stuart Hamilton: Earthly Meditations
Angels Gate Cultural Center is celebrating the life of Stuart Hamilton, late AGCC Studio Artist, in Stuart Hamilton: Earthly Meditations. The exhibition includes over 50 works made during the artist’s 10-year history at the Center. Earthly details taken out of context – stones, sticks, and bone fragments – are arranged in geometric patterns reflecting a sense of order in a meditative process that carefully considers the natural world. This juxtaposition – of the simple, small, and oft disregarded – against the visual complexity of land formations in rhythmic topographic line, invites an alternative consideration and appreciation. As the artist remarked on his practice, “I’ve chosen to focus on the beauty of the small and unspectacular from the natural world around me.”
