Teen Mural Club

Teen Mural Club is the newest educational program on the AGCC campus. Spanning 10-weeks, teens and in-betweens (ages 13-22) are mentored by a professional muralist to design and complete a mural on our campus. Together our participants learn the process it takes to create large-scale public art as practicing artists.

We are looking forward to our next semester of Teen Mural Club and will be posting details soon.

About Teen Mural Club

Teen Mural Club sessions take place on Wednesday afternoons in the fall and spring semesters to align with our partner San Pedro High School’s schedule. Just as artistic styles change from artist to artist, our participants are trained in the techniques mastered by their muralist mentor.

From paint markers to spray paint, our teens are able to utilize professional artist-materials as they receive professional development transferable to working as muralists in Los Angeles.

Program History

The Teen Mural Club pilot program began in Spring 2023, with the mural team AQMNI Mural Co. The goal of this cohort was to create an impactful representation of the Tongva’s enduring legacy and the continued presence of their spirit on our site. After educational conversations with generous cultural bearers of local indigenous communities, TMC created “Still Here,” our beautiful tribute to the contemporary Tongva peoples.

During our 2024 session, TMC was joined by Artist-Teacher Carlos Gacharná. Together they covered everything from protest murals to stenciling spray paint. We are proud to present their cumulative mural, “We All Bleed the Same,” which is a colorful tessellation of San Pedro themed cats in their work uniforms.
