Arts Education Intern

Summer 2019

 

Candidates for the Arts Education Intern position areinterested in learning about K-12 Education Programming at a non-profit arts organization.  Working with Angels Gate Cultural Center’s (AGCC) Education team, the intern will have the opportunity to develop and assist during innovative and progressive arts educational programs for youth, ages 5-18.

The Arts Education Intern will help to promote all education programs at AGCC, including Community Classes taught at the Center, as well as the Artists-in-Classrooms in-school program. The intern will also assist with AGCC’s Summer Camp 2019, working with middle school students and artist-teachers to ensure the success of this summer arts program.

 

This Intern will also participate in shared daily administrative activities, and will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about arts organizations operations, local educational systems, education budgeting and grant-writing, gallery education, program promotion and marketing, and arts education advocacy.

 

This is a full-time (40 hour per week) paid, 10-week internship that is funded by the LA County Arts Commission.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An enthusiasm for the arts, for education, and a passion for bringing high quality arts programming to an underserved area
  • Major in art, arts education, museum studies and/or art history preferred
  • Experience in or knowledge of arts programming and arts education with a diverse range of age groups
  • Familiarity with Mac computers
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • A familiarity with online social media tools

  • Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to problem-solve independently and collaborate with others
  • Reliable form of transportation is required, as the Angels Gate Cultural Center is not easily accessible via public transportation
  • Please note: Since the Angels Gate Cultural Center is a former military base and historic site accessibility in some areas is a challenge

Development Management Intern

Summer 2019

 

The Development Management Intern will assist in developing and writing grant proposals to support short and long-term gallery planning, arts education provision within LAUSD, and gallery programming related to the current exhibition year.

 

Assist with the fund development of the organization for gallery exhibitions and programming by researching potential donors, drafting correspondence and preparing reports.  Start and finish a project around donor engagement that will include database work, written connections and an event.

 

The intern will learn the basics of non-profit arts organization funding, from identifying, qualifying and filling grant proposals.  Throughout the course of the internship, the intern will be challenged to problem solve quickly and be creative in developing grant proposals that will impact the entire San Pedro and Los Angeles Harbor Region communities.
