PHOGUST – Aug 18

August 18, 2018 6 pm to 10 pm
A Presentation of Bent, broken and appropiated sounds for the discerning listener

Phog Masheeen Events, in association with Angels Gate Cultural Center, presents
Phogust a presentation of Bent, Broken and Appropriated sounds for the discerning listener on Saturday, August 18th. at 6:00 p.m. in the Amphitheater Battery Merriam at Angeles Gate Cultural Center. The event is free.

Phogust is a presentation of an array of cutting edge experimental sound practitioners from the greater Los Angeles area. Circuit Benders, Instrument Manufacturers and Sonic Explorers will converge on Angels Gate Cultural Center to create a sonic spectacle of rare proportions. Circuit Bending is the practice of exposing the circuitry of a sonic device, such as a toy or a musical instrument, then tampering with that circuit to cause the device to produce interesting sounds that the designers never intended. Performers assemble a collection of bent devices and then perform music with them. Appropriated sounds are instruments created from common objects or engine parts that are used in unique ways to perform music.

Noted video producer William Almas will provide live mixed video projections for the event.

Phogust is a celebration of people who think outside the box or perhaps have no box at all.

Angels Gate Cultural Center is open to the public M-F from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Admission is always free.
