Better Angels by Wayne Liebman
The second play of our new performing arts series will be Better Angels, a new work by playwright Wayne Peter Liebman.
Better Angels explores the importance of compassion in a nation at war. In 1863, a war-widow lays siege to the White House to remonstrate Abraham Lincoln about his war, an act of defiance that foreshadows Cindy Sheehan's Texas vigil by more than a century. What is the responsibility of a great leader to listen to people who question his motives?
Angels Gate's reading series will conclude on April 14 with Worth by Corey Madden. Worth is an acerbic look at the pull of money in the world of art. The play marks Corey Madden's return to playwriting after years of directing and producing for the Mark Taper Forum.
To cap the season, a new commissioned performance piece directed by Ken Roht will be presented by the Cultural Center and the Port of Los Angeles as part of the Art on the Waterfront 2007 festival, at the Cabrillo Beach Bathouse on the evening of May 12th.
