The screen printing workshop consists of a two day orientation to photographic screen printing. The objective is to learn how to properly prepare and expose a screen in the sun, then register and print and 2-3 color image on a variety of surfaces. Over the course of a weekend we will complete a screen print project, while discussing the techniques and tools involved.

Etching

The four week etching class introduces the process of copper etching using acid. We will demonstrate hard and soft ground etching, simple aquatint, and printing. Students will get a hands-on experience preparing, etching, and printing their own plates. Our small class size allows for extra assistance for those who are new to printmaking, so all levels are welcome. Please come explore this traditional medium in our beautiful printshop overlooking the Los Angeles Harbor.

Book Arts I - Pamphlet Adventure
Through creating series of pamphlets, you will learn the basics of book arts - folding, measuring, cutting, and sewing paper, incorporating fabric, creating your own paste paper, and attaching decorative objects such as beads to make your special books even more exciting.

Book Arts II - Exposed Spine Binding
This course is focusing on two techniques of exposed spine binding - Coptic Binding and Caterpillar Stitch. You will create minimum of two hard cover books, and learn how to attach ties, or other book closures. Some experience in book binding is welcome, but not necessary.

Book Arts III - Flat Back Journal
For all the secrets in your life, create your own beautiful journal. Learn how to sew a book block, cut and cover book boards, use decorative papers, and book cloth, attach ties, or other book closures. Flat back book is a perfect structure to use as a journal, photo album, sketchbook, etc. Some experience in book arts is welcome, but not necessary.

Beginning Screen Printing Weekend Workshop is a two day orientation to photographic screen printing (silkscreen). The objective of this workshop is to learn how to properly prepare and expose a screen in the sun, then to be able to register and print a 2-3 color image on a variety of surfaces (paper, fabric, etc.). Over the course of two days we will complete a screen printing project of your choice. All techniques shown can be reproduced at home with simple supplies and tools.

(Water based ink, squeegees, and screens will be provided. Paper will be available for sale.)
