Basic Metal Working for the Artist and Maker

This class will teach the basics of fabricating with steel. Tools we will use include the Oxygen-Acetylene Torch and the MIG welder. Class will cover ancient metal working with heat and hammer, up to using modern electronic welding methods. Students will gain a mastery of safety gear, essential tools, and workplace set-up. The class environment is an active metal studio, allowing students to learn skills first-hand. There will also be brief lectures on topics of interest, such as rust, painting, and other metal finishes.

Saturdays from 9:30am – 11:30am on the following dates:

at Angels Gate Cultural Center, Building J.

Basic facts:

Tools we use are: MIG Welder, Torch Cutter, 14” cut off saw, 5” grinder, hammer, drill.

Students must bring their own safety gear, according to a list provided once they enroll in class. The safety gear costs $40-$80 from Amazon.

Personal tutoring and shop time is available Saturday afternoon after class and Sunday mornings, for an hourly fee of 40$. Depending on interest, we may establish an “open shop” period on Sunday mornings from 9 – 12 at a cost of $40 per person.

Enrollment fee is $290 per student. Families/groups of two or more can get a discount. Also, I will extend a reduced rate to residents and employees of Angels Gate.

Class size is limited to 8.
