At Angels Gate, we pride ourselves on collaboration in all areas. Taking care to build lasting relationships with principals at each school served has allowed us to learn quickly which other arts partners are providing arts residencies at these schools. We collaborate closely with other local arts partners, nonprofits, community hubs, and educators to ensure that our students receive arts education opportunities both in and out of school time.

Boys & Girls Club, Fall 2017 – Summer 2018

Studio 327 is a collaboration between Angels Gate and the Port of Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club. This program provides comprehensive arts engagement afterschool to K-6th graders at Barton Hill Elementary in San Pedro, as well as 6th-12th graders who attend the Port of Los Angeles Club site.

Combining the arts expertise of AGCC with the Port of Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club’s extensive education support programming, AGCC offers afterschool programming in beginning to advanced arts instruction in an effort to develop the focus and persistence needed when engaging in the arts, and transferring those characteristics to the academic and life efforts of our youth.

With Angels Gate’s professional Artist-Teachers facilitating the arts at the Port Boys & Girls Club, as well as partnerships with local Dance and Music community arts partners, we offer students a variety of arts opportunities. Studio 327’s Visual Arts program is unlike any the Boys and Girls Port Club has seen; students explore paints, charcoal, collage, clay, and learn the fundamentals of art. In the music classes, students have gone from never picking up an instrument before to playing on stage at the Warner Grand in front of 200 audience members, or performing at San Pedro’s First Thursday events. Working with AGCC Artist-Teachers, Studio 327 is giving San Pedro’s children opportunities to work with practicing artists, growing their skills, vocabulary, and professional connections, and enabling a greater discovery of the passions within themselves. The Port Club’s art studio is a haven for safety, support, and creative exploration.

Our collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club upholds the tenets of our mission: to provide space for artists, arts education, and community engagement. Through this partnership, we are able to bring our arts education programming outside of the San Pedro school classrooms we have served for over twenty years and into one of the city’s most important youth community centers.
