Bridging San Pedro Artist Talk
Exhibition Walkthrough and Talk with the Artists
Saturday, February 29th, 1 pm
Join artists June Edmonds, Blue McRight, and Alexis Slickelman, along with community art workshop participants, for an artist talk and exhibition walkthrough of Bridging San Pedro: Visual Literacy as Community Practice on Saturday, February 29th from 1 pm to 2:15 pm in the Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) Gallery.
Curated by jill moniz, this exhibition highlights the community’s relationships to the land and sea. Bridging San Pedro extends visual literacy and action to empower community and place. Collaborative works, resulting from the artists’ community workshops held at AGCC this past fall, are an integral part of the exhibition. The artist talk and guided walkthrough will provide an in-depth look at the inspiration behind the collaborative artworks of June Edmonds’ Identity Flags, Alexis Slickelman’s Like the Ocean, and Blue McRight’s Fathom. Attendees with have the opportunity to interact directly with the artists and engage with the art in this free, public event.
Bridging San Pedro: Visual Literacy as Community Practice will be on view through April 4th, 2020 with open gallery hours Monday – Saturday from 10am to 4pm at Angels Gate Cultural Center, located at 3601 S. Gaffey Street, San Pedro, California.
This project is supported, in part, by the Port of Los Angeles through the Community Investment Grant Program.
